Frequently Asked Questions
Is functional fitness safe for children?
The simple answer is YES! Functional fitness is not just about building massive muscles or lifting heavy weights, but about enhancing overall strength, flexibility, balance and coordination to make daily tasks easier and reduce the risk of injuries. For a child, this means being able to climb, jump, carry things and play with their friends without getting tired too quickly. At GT Fitness and Wellbeing, our exercises mimic these real-life movements and train the body to function efficiently in various situations that occur throughout the day. So next time you want your child to help you carry in the shopping, remember GT Fitness and Wellbeing can help your child to lift that load!
For your skills development programmes and targeted interventions, how is progressed measured?
Before the start of each programme block, your fitness coach will discuss with you the needs of each participant and set targeted outcomes. These are often similar for some or all participants in a group but can be individualised or adapted as needed. At the end of the programme block, you will receive a summary progress report, detailing the progress each participant has made against each of their outcomes over the half term.
What training and qualifications do coaches have?
Our coaches all have professional teaching qualifications, additional training in SEND and a minimum of a Level 3 fitness instructor/personal training qualification. All programmes are supervised by our founding director Gideon Forbes and you can find out more about his training and qualifications here.
What are your safeguarding procedures?
GT Fitness and Wellbeing has its own safeguarding policy but we also ensure we follow all safeguarding procedures of each setting we work with. All coaches have up-to-date enhanced DBS checks. If you would like to see a copy of any of our policies, please get in touch using our Contact page.
Do you carry out a risk assessment?
At GT Fitness and Wellbeing, some elements of our risk assessment are consistent across all settings but we also recognise that the needs of each child or young person and their setting can vary. This may impact on some aspects of risk management which is why our risk assessments are individualised for each school and group of young people we work with. We will be able to share with you a copy of the risk assessment in place for your school before we begin any sessions with you.
How much do sessions cost?
Our prices can vary depending on individual requirements but you can see an overview of what we charge on our Prices page.
Where do sessions take place?
Our personal training services and Skills Development Programmes take place in-person and online. For in-person sessions, we can travel to the young person’s home or to a space they feel comfortable in. Where parents have received permission, in-person sessions can also take place at the child or young person’s school during the day.
Targeted Intervention Programmes and school clubs take place in school only. If you are interested in either of these services and we are not currently working in your child's school, please speak to the school and direct them to make an enquiry with us.
Which areas do you operate in?
We are based in South Hertfordshire and currently run our services across Barnet, Harrow and Hertfordshire (including St Albans, Watford, Bushey, Borehamwood and Radlett). For in-person services delivered beyond this area, travel expenses may apply.
Our online option for personal training can offer more flexibility and we currently support clients online throughout the UK.
